Prize Giving Ceremony - Composition

The annual examination of all classes is held in the months November and December. The result of the examination is known in the last week of December. Every year prizes are given to the best three students of each class.

This year prizes were given on the 10th March. Our school was nicely decorated on the Prize Day. We decorated the gate with green leaves and flowers. School gate and buildings were decorated with coloured bulbs.

I had taken part in decorating the school hall. I also worked as a volunteer and received some of the guests. I stood second in recitation. I received my prize from the chief guest.

The meeting was held at 7 p.m. Guardians and respectable persons of our town were invited. It was a large gathering. The Deputy Commissioner presided over the function. The function started with our national song and the recitation from the Holy Quran. Our students recited some nice poems of Rabindranath and Nazrul. Some songs were sung by them. Then the Headmaster read out the annual report of the school. Some gentlemen delivered short speeches.

The president gave away the prizes to the students. The best three students of each class got the prizes. A prize was given to a student fot his social work. I got the first prize for getting the highest marks in the class.

The president then delivered his speech. Headmaster thanked him and the gentlemen present.

After the prize giving was over, there was a cultural function. It began with the singing of the national song in chorus. Then a student sang our national poet’s ‘karar ai-louha kapat’. It was well received. It was followed by two songs by Rabindranath. They were beautifully sung. There was the closing song and the function was over.

It was a nice function. I shall remember it always.
