 Nepal, Known as the land of Everest and the only Hindu Kingdom is one of the most charming countries in Asia. It has some of the world's best and very important temples. Nepal is rich in scenic beauty and cultural treasures. Nepal lies between India and the Tibetan part of China. The small country has an area of 1,47,181 square kilometers. Southern Nepal has hot summers and warm winters. The central hill lands including the Kathmandu and Pokhara valleys have a temperate climate. The main section of the Himalayan range is to the north of Nepal. This part of Nepal has some of the highest peaks of the world including Everest. About 2,90,00,000 people live in Nepal. Most of the people are rural people. Less than one million people live in Kathmandu. There are dozens of ethnic groups and castes. About 48 percent of the people speak Nepali, Maithali, Bhojpuri, Tharu and Tamang are also spoken. Nepal is the holy land of Lord Pashupatinath and Gautam Buddha. So the Hindus and the Buddhists have lived in harmony for centuries. The most important of all Nepalese celebration is the biggest animal sacrifice of the year. The Holi and Chaitra Daisan, Haribodhini Ekadashi, Maha Sivaratri Krishna Jaynti, Mani Rimd, Buddha Jayanti are some of the big festivals of the Hindus and the Buddhists.
