Muhammad Mansurddin
Muhammad Mansurddin, educationist and folklorist was born on 31 January 1904 in the village of Muraipur in the Sujanager Upazila of Pabna district. In 1928 he obtained his MA inspector. In 1951 he started teaching in Dhaka Islamia Intermediate College. He subsequently taught at Chittagong Government Intermediate College and M.C. College, Sylhet. In 1952 he became editor of the Mahe-nao. The same year he went to London to attend an International Folk Song Conference. On his return from London he joined Dhaka College as head of the Bangla Department. He retired from Dhaka College in 1959. He started writing from his student day. His first poem, "Bedouin Musalman" was published in the magazine of Edward College, Pabna. Since his student days Mansurddin collected many folk writing from rural areas especially from Pablna, Faridpur and Kustia. His immortal work is Haramoni. His other major works are Shirni. Agarbati. For his contribution to Bangla literature and culture he received a number of awards, among them, the Bangla Academy Award, Ekushey Padak, Narisuddin Gold Medal, Independence Day Medal etc. He died in Dhaka on 19 September 1987.
