Independence Day - Paragraph

March 26 is our Independence Day because on this very day our War of Liberation started. Bangladesh was regarded as a colony of Great Britain for 190 years before its being independent. Then it had again been trapped by the Pakistanis. The Pakistanis exploited Bangladesh for about 25 years. Bangalees had been crippled economically, physically and mentally by the ill treatment of the Pakistanis from the very beginning. So the Bengalees carried on movement against the oppressive Pakistanis. When their oppression reached extreme limit and they attacked on the sleeping armless Bangaless on March 25, 1971, our heroic sons counter attacked them. And thus our War of Independence began. People from all walks of life fought against the occupation forces for about nine months at a stretch. At last the occupation forces were bound to surrender to our Mukti Bahini on December 16, 1971. Thus we got our independence. It costs us the lives of about 30 lakh and the chastity of thousands of women. Our Independence Day is observed with due solemnity. The day is celebrated with discussion meeting, seminars, military parades and other cultural activities. Streets and public buildings are decorated and the whole country assumes a festive look on this national day.
