 Ans: The column graph shows the literacy rate of Bangladesh from 1972 to 2012. In 1972, the literacy rate of Bangladesh was 47%. Within ten years of time it increased by 5% and stood at 52% in 1982. Then, there was a dramatic increase of 13%. It was 65% in 1992. But, through the next ten years it remained static. There was an increase by only 1% and it was 66% in 2002. Surprisingly enough, the literacy rate went downwards in the next five years. It slipped down to 60% in 2012. There was again a sudden increase of 15% within the next five years. In 2012, the literacy rate of Bangladesh stood at 75% which was the highest in the time-span of 40 years (1972-2012). The column graph illustrates that the literacy rate of Bangladesh steadily increased for the first 20 years and remained static for a period of 10 years. Then it went down only to have a sharp increase in the last five years.
